The first thing I noticed was that it needs a spiral binding - the book is more like an oversized pamphlet than a book, and it doesn't lie open on a music stand or table.
The second thing, which really stands out, is that the font is rather small for an oversized book. Since it's intended for beginners, I'd hope for a larger font.
Just a note: these are not entire pieces of music, but themes. There are 18 pieces, and only one takes more than one page. Several are only comprised of 4 lines of notes. But they are highly recognizable, which should make them easy to learn, and they look like they'll be good warm-up practice once the player has advanced a bit.
Overall, I'm satisfied with this book. For me, sixty five years old, just finding a family violin that I am excited to learn about, it is so much fun to be working with these familiar pieces that are not so difficult that I cannot learn them!!!

My teacher started me on one and it's coming along okay, considering I'm still finding the strings and notes. There are helpful hints and cues if you're new to reading music. This is an outstanding beginner book. There are probably two or three songs that are a little above beginner level but most of the pieces are easy and fun to play.
Most of the music has fingerings finger numbers above the notes which can be helpful for the beginner as long as it's not used as a crutch. I do wish it was a little longer as it's very short and would have rated it higher if they could have included a few more songs. However, for the price it seems to be a fair to good value. I run through almost every song in this book once a day when I practice; it's a great warm up.
I'm happy to have this as part of my music collection. I am a intermediate fiddle player that plays mostly old time. I play some classical stuff and thought it may be fun to mess around with some more. I thought an easy book would be a great place to start. Not this one though. It's only parts of the songs so it's not really that useful to me. I messed around with it for a couple days but I doubt if I'll pick it up again.
It's truly for beginners. One person found this helpful. This book has a good variety of melodies with a variey of levels of difficulty, I'd say from raw beginner to confident beginner.
The tunes aren't in order of increasing difficulty, though, so it might take a teacher's help to decide what pieces the student is ready for. I'm a teacher currently using this book with a highly motivated first-year private student who says he loves classical music. Awful, way too simple even for a beginner. You only get the theme of the songs presented, with no real substance. I suppose if someone wishes to impress friends and family with a quick run through this if they are an extreme novice then it would suffice. For those with more skill, find another book to buy; this one will do nothing for you at all. Just received this book and it looks GREAT!

The book was ordered in order learn some classical pieces. However, there is only one page of music for each song, whereas the actual length of the original songs are much, much longer.
Therefore it is not possible to learn the whole piece from the book. Report abuse. This is a rating for the kindle version only - If I had the book version I would probably have given it 5 stars. The electronic version is far too small to be able to rad the notation. Will have to work out a way to print screen from my phone, convert to pdf, transfer to a PC and then print!
Quite a lot of hassle, just to be able to see the music from a music stand! Great selection of classic tunes and nice transposition for a beginner though. I was disappointed in this as I thought the pieces would be larger and the finger notations would not be written.
However for a beginner I think this product would be very beneficial. Lots of fun to be able to play some interesting music even though I'm a beginner, get this if you want to play classical songs you know rather than twinkle twinkle little star or Mary had a little lamb!
